Benefits for alumni
Pierce Law Alumni Directory
Pierce Law offers a free online Alumni Directory. After you register, you can update information, post photos, share business cards, and keep in touch with fellow alumni. This directory is safe, secure, and only accessible to Pierce Law alumni.
To join, go to www.piercelaw.onlinecommunity.com, click on First Time Users; and follow the instructions.
Lifetime Pierce Law e-mail address
Alumni have access to a lifelong email forwarding service that enables you to keep or re-activate your Pierce Law email address. This can be activated anytime after you graduate.
Contact mgosselin@piercelaw.edu to set up this email service at any time.
Career Services for alumni
Pierce Law alumni can access to the resources of the Career Services Office, including career development counseling, résumé and cover letter review, video interviews and access to job postings.
We can also request reciprocity for you from another law school, which, if granted, will enable you to use certain resources in their Career Services Office.
Contact Career Services at careerservices@piercelaw.edu.
Free access to Westlaw
Pierce Law alumni have free access to WestlawPRO. No password is needed but our license restricts access to two onsite locations. We have chosen the Government Documents workstation and the Attorney Member workstation, both on the main floor of the Pierce Law Library.
Westlaw PRO functions similarly to Westlaw for law schools:- "Find" many primary documents by their citation or name;
- "KeyCite" documents to validate and to update;
- Choose databases by identifier or from the Directory;
- Search using "Terms & Connectors" (Boolean) or "Natural Language" (sentences);
- Search using "KeySearch" (categorized legal topics and subtopics);
- Search using West "Topic and Key Numbers" (using a 3-digit number for the topic);
- Limit or restrict searches using "Locate" and other features;
- Link from retrieved documents to documents cited in hypertext; and
- Print lists or documents to the attached printer.
WestlawPRO is not as complete a collection as Westlaw for law schools, but includes virtually all primary materials and a range of commonly used secondary sources.
For additional information, see the "WESTLAW RESEARCH GUIDE" located at each workstation. If you have questions, please ask any of the Library staff for assistance. Barry Shanks, Roberta Woods, and Kathy Fletcher are the likeliest choices when they're available.
Law Library policy for graduates
Access to the Pierce Law library collection is always free to alumni,
but other services are reserved for fee-paying members. Pierce Law
alumni automatically become members of the library at no cost for the
period extending from their graduation date until June 30th of the
following year. Benefits of membership include checking-out circulating
materials and interlibrary loan. At the end of the first membership
year, a renewal notice will be sent. At that time, you can elect
to continue your membership for a fee.
Membership rates are scaled for the first five (5) years of practice.
After five years, alumni are charged the sole practitioner fee and may
purchase individual memberships, even if they work in a firm of two or
more attorneys. An alumni membership may not be used by anyone other
than the alumnus/a.
For more information is available at the Pierce Law Library.
Transcripts
Transcripts are available through the Registrar's Office at a cost of $3.00 per copy. It takes approximately three business days for us to process transcript requests. Requests can be made using the Transcript Request Form. Transcripts can not and will not be faxed or electronically mailed anywhere.
