Welcome to Cork

Cork City, the third largest city in Ireland (second largest city in the south of Ireland) blends history and culture with the amenities of a cosmopolitan city. The city owes its origins to St. Finbarr who in the 6th century founded a monastery on the south bank of the River Lee where St. Finn Barre's Cathedral stands today. Cork, always an important seaport, began its existence on an island in the swampy estuary of the River Lee (the Irish for Cork 'Corcaigh' means a marsh) and gradually climbed up the steep banks on either side. Today the river flows through the city in two main channels so you find yourself constantly crossing bridges. Cork was named the European Union Cultural City for 2005. You can expect many wonderful and exciting activities during your stay in Cork. Numerous local area sight-seeing trips are available from downtown Cork and inexpensive train-trips and flights are readily available. Credits

Students completing the program will receive four (4) hours of ABA approved credit.

Tuition, Fees and Financial Aid

Tuition for the program is USD $2200 for four credits. Students have the option to enroll in fewer than four credits, but tuition remains the same. In addition to the tuition fee, there is a flat program fee of $200.00, which covers the cost or reading materials and various program expenses. Tuition payment, in full, is required by TBA. Credit card payment for tuition will be accepted from those students not pursuing student loans, this payment may be made online only. Please contact Denise Presby in the Business Office for payment information. Law students should inquire about financial aid through their home law school. Students applying for student loans are required to notify the Director of Summer Programs, in writing, that a loan is in process and that the student understands he/she is obligated to pay full tuition prior to the start of classes.

Expenses are expected to be approximately up to TBA, including tuition, commercial airfare, transfers in Ireland. Expenses are expected to be TBA EUR for the recommended lodging and meals; but not including incidentals, clothing, or other travel.

Housing

Special discount arrangements have been made for accommodations at Deans Hall near University College Cork for up to 40 students (private rooms around a common kitchen and living area).
