The National Mall is one such location, where various monuments of American leaders are located; it also serves to connect the White House and the United States Capitol buildings. Notable points of interest in the Mall include the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial. Also located in the District is the world renowned Smithsonian Institution, which contains a collection of free museums.
