Public interest awareness

Bownes Forum

Pierce Law established the Judge Hugh H. Bownes Forum on Civil Rights in 1992 as an annual commemoration of the writing of the Bill of Rights. Named after United States First Circuit Court Judge Hugh H. Bownes, the Forum reaffirms our dedication to the protection of individual rights and liberties, and pays tribute to a man committed to these ideals. Pierce Law invites guests to speak on current issues regarding civil liberties and personal freedom.

Frank Rowe Kenison Lecture

In 1990, the faculty established the Frank Rowe Kenison Lecture in honor of Judge Kenison who was the chairman of the Overseers of the Franklin Pierce Law Center Corporation. The lecture focuses on the role of state court judges.

The Kenneth J. Germeshausen Center for the Law of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The Kenneth J. Germeshausen Center for the Law of Innovation and Entrepreneurship serves as the umbrella organization for Pierce Law's intellectual property programs; and draws together an array of other programs, acting as a resource to business, scientific, legal, and governmental interests. Under the guidance of its director, the Center conducts a biennial Intellectual Property Systems Major Problems Conference and an annual Advanced Licensing Institute.

Lectures, Forums, and Conferences

We bring together lawyers, judges, academics, and leaders of many fields for lectures, forums, and conferences. Students typically participate and often help plan the program and prepare course materials.

First Monday

First Monday is an annual, nationwide event sponsored by the Alliance for Justice. The Alliance is a national association of public interest organizations that promotes public interest law and reform of the legal system. Held the first Monday of October, the event often features guest speakers of national reputation.
