Public Interest Career Opportunities

Public Interest Summer Fellowship Program

In 1991 the Law Center and Public Interest Coalition, a student organization, inaugurated a program to offer grants to students working as volunteer summer interns for public interest organizations. Each year, Pierce Law faculty, staff, students, alumni, private law firms, as well as area businesses and non-profits support the annual PIC Auction. All of the money raised at the auction is used to fund summer fellowships for students working on behalf of individuals unable to afford legal representation and for non-profit organizations which improve access to justice for all people.

Social Justice/Public Interest Externships

Externships place students within legal organizations outside Pierce Law, applying substantive law from class to real cases. Recent examples include: State and Federal courts and prosecuting attorneys; Disability Rights Center; Public Interest Research Group; New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union; New Hampshire Human Rights Commission; National Network to End Domestic Violence; and ABA Juvenile Justice Center.
