Legal Intern, Domestic Violence and Child Abuse/Sexual Assault Units at the Prosecutor’s Office for Mercer County, Trenton, New Jersey
Van Heygen wrote numerous legal briefs, interviewed clients, created indictments and case downgrades, and worked on separate indictments for the Pre-Trial Intervention Program. She spent time re-creating crime scenes for serious assaults and domestic violence homicides.
For bail hearings, Van Heygen worked with attorneys on the final recommendations that the unit submitted to the judge. Finally, she was able to go to court almost every day to see motions, trials, and jury selections.
