The work of 50 New Hampshire printmakers is currently featured in an exhibition of nearly 100 new prints currently on view at Franklin Pierce Law Center, Two White Street, entitled Prints of the Year 2008, the exhibit is open daily to the public, free of charge, and will be on view through March 28.

A reception for the artists will be held on Friday evening, February 8, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Participating artists will bring portfolios of their work featuring additional prints for examination and purchase.

According to exhibit organizer, Pierce Law alumnus Parker Potter of Contoocook, NH, “This is the seventh year for Prints of the Year. It is always a thrill to see the contributions to the show arrive. I never know until the day I hang the show, exactly what will be in the exhibition. I have never been disappointed. To the contrary, I think the show gets more interesting every year.”

“Unlike some exhibits that feature the work of multiple artists, Prints of the Year has no specific theme,” says Potter. “I try to group the pieces in such a way as to create conversations between the artists. The prints span the full range of printmaking techniques, including: etching, engraving, drypoint, mezzotint, woodcut, wood engraving, silkscreen, relief printing, lithography, and monoprints. Several prints combine techniques and others involve printing on unconventional surfaces such as fabric and wood.”

“Participants include nationally and internationally known printmakers, professional artists and the finest printmaking students in New Hampshire,” according to Potter. “Most of the work was completed within the last six months."

For information, please call Franklin Pierce Law Center, (603) 228-1541. The exhibit is on view on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
