Franklin Pierce Law Center will hold its sixteenth annual Public Interest Coalition Auction on Thursday, March 20, at the Courtyard Marriott, 70 Constitution Avenue. An auction preview and silent auction will be held from 5 - 7 PM, with live bidding beginning at 7:15 PM. Tickets are $25.
Last year's auction raised over $46,000 to fund the work of 12 law students in unpaid positions with public interest organizations throughout the United States.
"The students selected as Public Interest Coalition Fellows have the opportunity to work with nonprofit organizations and government agencies serving the legal needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged clients, locally, nationally and internationally," says Megan De Vorsey, director of the Social Justice Institute and auction advisor.
The 2007 fellowship recipients worked with a wide variety of public interest organizations, such as the New Hampshire Legal Assistance, New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union, the Office of the Public Defender for the Eastern District of Louisiana, and Save our Wild Salmon, Portland, OR.
According to De Vorsey, "The fellowships are awarded to selected students who demonstrate the commitment and qualifications for this vitally important work. Selection is done through a competitive application process. PIC fellows serve a wide range of client needs during their summer internships and the work they do is enormously valued by the organizations and clients they serve."
New Hampshire Bar Association President-Elect Ellen Arnold JD '77, a Pierce Law alumna, will serve as this year's honorary auction chair. This year's student co-chairs are Amy Christensen, Jill Corey, Tyler Obenauf, Chris Paul and Jessica Roche.
