Pierce Law Welcomes Chinese Visitors on State Department Tour

Franklin Pierce Law Center welcomes highly regarded visitors from the Peoples Republic of China on a Department of State tour Friday, September 25.

Members of the group include  Visiting Scholar '02, Mr. Jinsheng Mao who is Deputy Director General of the State Intellectual Property Office; Mr. Xiangdong Sun, Associate Professor at the Central Party School; Mr. Xianghua Tian, Senior Journalist, China Business Network; Ms. Shuying Wang, Deputy Chief, Law and Regulation Section of the Jilin Administrative Bureau for Industry and Commerce; and Dr. Wei Wang, Judge of the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court.

The group, part of the International Visitor Leadership Program, is here to gain knowledge to better understand how U.S. law enforcement deals with intellectual property infringement, how different U.S. government offices coordinate to protect intellectual property rights, how U.S. firms deal with intellectual property rights infringement, and to learn about U.S. customs procedures and practices.

The itinerary for the contingent's time at Pierce Law includes an overview of Intellectual Property with Prof. Bill Hennessey who leads the school's China Intellectual Property Summer Institute; a tour of the library which houses the Western Hemisphere's largest Intellectual Property collection with professor and IP librarian Jon Cavicchi; a discussion of university technology transfer with Prof. John Orcutt; lunch with graduate students presently here from China; an introduction to the International Technology Transfer Institute, a unique clinic directed by Dr. Stanley Kowalski; and a meeting with Prof. Mary Wong, expert on the legal and policy challenges presented by digital technology and the Internet.
