Fall 2008 Orientation Program for Graduate Programs: All Masters and LLM Students

Graduate Student Orientation - August 14-20, 2008
Class of 2009

New student orientation for all Masters and LLM students begins on Thursday, August 14, 2008. Registration and check-in begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Jury Box Café. We have a special gift for all of you - a Pierce Law computer/saddle bag so there is no need to bring a briefcase or backpack to orientation. You'll receive yours when you register on Thursday morning, August 14 at 9:00 a.m. in the Jury Box Café.

Orientation will be 5 days: August 14 - Wednesday, August 20, 2008. There will be many academic presentations as well as a variety of social events. Listed below is information that will help you prepare for orientation and the start of your classes

Orientation Schedule

Reading Assignments

There will be a section during Orientation on How to Brief a Case. Please read the Briefing a Case Assignment and two cases: State v. Halloran and Luke Records.

Conduct Code

We will discuss the Pierce Law Conduct Code at orientation. The Conduct Code may be found in the 2008-2009 Student Handbook which you will receive at orientation. A copy of our current 2007-2008 Student Handbook can be found on our web site.

Pierce Law Bookstore - Law Students Cooperative Services Association

We have a cooperative bookstore on campus. If you're interested in joining, please complete this form. You may also join when you arrive on campus.

Computer Services

Computers are not required at Pierce Law but if you're interested, here are the specifications.

Volunteer Public Service Day

There is a Volunteer Public Service Day scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2008 beginning at 9:00 a.m. All students and student mentors interested in volunteering a couple hours of their time to help a Concord area community organization are welcome to attend. Special Events

Welcome BBQ - Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 12:00 in the Courtyard.

All students and their families are invited to a Welcome BBQ at Pierce Law on the first day of Orientation - Thursday, August 14 at 12:00. You'll have the opportunity to meet many Pierce Law faculty and staff and your classmates as well. There will be good food, music and lots of conversation. The Welcome BBQ will be in the Pierce Law Atrium and Courtyard.

Field Trip - Lake Winnipesauke aboard the Mt. Washington Tour Boat

All Graduate Students and their families are invited to the NH Supreme Court and a boat trip on Lake Winnipesauke aboard the Mt. Washington. Bus leaves Pierce Law at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2008. All students and their families are invited. You can bring your lunch or buy it aboard the boat.

Orientation Welcome Party - Sponsored by the Student Bar Association (SBA) Tuesday, August 19, 2008

All students and their spouses (this is an over 21 event) are invited to a Welcome Party on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Pierce Law's Jury Box Cafe.  Come on down, meet your classmates and relax.  7:00 - 9:00 pm.

 

Evening BBQ - Wednesday, August 20, 2008

All students and their families are invited to a BBQ at Pierce Law on Wednesday, August 20, 2008. There is a reception for spouses and children just before the BBQ beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the Jury Box Café.

Orientation Wrap-up Party - Thursday, August 20, 2008 at 7:30 PM at the Barley House, Concord, NH

All students and their spouses are invited (this is an over 21 years event) to a Wrap-Up party on Thursday evening beginning at 7:30 pm in the Barley House. There will be appetizers, beverages, good music and great conversation.

You can get here by train, plane or automobile, as long as you get here in time for orientation!

We're looking forward to seeing you on August 14th and hope you have a good trip to Concord, New Hampshire. Until then, enjoy your summer!
